Consultation has concluded
Dear Colleagues
As you have heard me say many times since I started here at UOW, we are facing substantial changes in government funding and the subsequent impact to our revenue means that while we have taken some important steps to stabilise this year’s budget we must introduce additional measures through 2025 to ensure we remain financially sustainable.
The government’s policy on international students has significantly impacted our enrolments and we are unlikely to meet our 2025 cap of 3,700. As a result we have set a cost reduction target of $45 million to be delivered in 2025.
This will mean a reduction in both salary and non-salary costs and there will be no area of the University that won’t be impacted – including both academic and professional staff. Today we are commencing a preliminary phase of consultation in relation to potential workplace change.
This has not been an easy decision and was not taken lightly. But we must completely transform UOW, that means completely transforming what we do and how we do it.
Importantly, staff have the opportunity to provide information and suggestions that they consider relevant for the development of any formal draft change proposal.
I also wanted to acknowledge that uncertainty can be difficult and encourage you to access UOW’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider, TELUS Health if you need support. It is a professional and confidential counselling service available to you. To arrange a consultation with a counsellor, please call 1300 361 008.
Take care,
John
